From Hobby Blogger to Boss Blogger
I bet you are curious to who I am and why I became an online coach for social media influencers and bloggers, aren’t you? Here’s the down low on my history as I took my hobby blog to a full-time business.
Let’s first rewind back to the fall of 2010, you know the time period when no one really knew what a blogger was. The story goes like this.
When my husband and I were first married I was sitting on the couch and said, “Hey, I’m going to start a food blog, ok hun?”
We had been married all of three months so his answer at that point was always, “Yes, dear whatever you want to do.”
Just kidding, he still says that, just with a large amount of sarcasm in his voice!
Neither of us really knew what a blog was, but I was going to start one! That is when Julie’s Eats & Treats, Inc. was born.
As they say the rest is history!
A long story short I worked on that blog when I could it in. There was no “How to Start a Blog in 3 Easy Steps” back then. It was more of a wing it and work your tail off gig. So that’s what I did. I flew by the seat of my pants, tried, failed, tried, failed and the story goes on.
Somewhere along the line I started getting my crap together and believing this could be something more than a hobby. I dug in, learned everything I could. I tested theories, tried crazy things and little by little I gained momentum.
I learned about SEO, ad networks, affiliate sales, email marketing, photography, videography, brand collaborations etc. Little by little I kept gaining that momentum and this hobby blog became a “side-hustle”.
From Side Hustle to Full-Time Blogger
Finally in the fall of 2017 I decided I just couldn’t balance a full-time job, three kids, a marriage and a side-hustle. My husband had been telling me that for years, but I was stubborn. I loved my full-time job and I was nervous to let it go.
After trying to balance it all started to effect my home life I decided enough was enough and I went to full-time blogger.
I had established a full-time blog that paid me a six-figure income! Who would have ever thought? I remember when I was sitting there thinking, wait they made $100 in a month off their blog? That’s CRAZY talk.
I had mastered the art of driving traffic from Pinterest to my blog to achieve a blog that a million+ page views a month.
I had also achieved my dream.
The dream of running my own business and being self employed.
Most Days You Can Find Me…
In the kitchen or my office/studio cranking out content or recipes.
There’s typically a coffee cup next to me to fuel me through the day along with a space heater or blanket.
I’m cold 98% of my life.
Can you relate?
I am Mostly Known For…
Being the farm girl from the middle of nowhere Minnesota.
Can you drive a tractor?
People thinks it funny I have to drive THREE HOURS to an airport when they meet me at conferences or brand events.
I don’t think it’s funny at all, but west central Minnesota is where I hail from and my hubs is not leaving so I drive those three stinkin’ hours to get on a plane.
Therefore, I don’t travel much!
When I’m Not Busy You Can Find Me…
Reading. Reading Reading.
No, not that “How to become a better person stuff”.
Romance.
Apparently, my husband does not deliver enough of it and I go to books for it.
Just kidding!
Or am I?
You can find me on the couch, in front of the fire place with a coffee and romantic comedy book if I can snag a few moments of “me” time!
I am Mostly Known For…
Being a food blogger.
When you hail from a small town and you have a large social media following it seems you become a local celebrity of sorts.
It’s kind of fun.
And then people follow you around the grocery store or stalk what’s in your cart to see what you are dreaming up next.
That’s when they realize I’m just a regular old mom and I still grab the blue box of Mac and Cheese!
Gasp!
